Last year, Maria Grazia Chiuri made her Dior debut during September Fashion Week, premiering her bold new spring and summer collection. Now, the French maison’s latest artistic director has debuted her 2017 pre-fall collection, which is just as visually stunning and filled with female empowerment as her previous offering.
Aimed squarely at a younger generation, Chiuri is bringing a fresh look to the house, while still developing her interpretation of Paris.
“Christian Dior is a Parisian brand, so you have to feel this attitude that there is in the city,” she told WWD. “You can dress like you want, you can express how you feel. I feel this atmosphere of freedom in the city.”

The ex-Valentino designer had previously mentioned that for future collections she would draw inspiration from past Dior designers, while giving it her own personal twist that would “speak to a new generation of women.”
“I like the heritage element, but at the same time I want to use it in a contemporary way, because in the end fashion speaks about now, and our style of life is completely different,” she explained. “I want to express myself in a very easy way, because I don’t think that this heritage has to be something that is untouchable. You have to translate this heritage in a language that probably is more about now, because I want to speak, for this brand, to a new generation of women.”
As a Valentino fan, I eagerly await to see what the designer is bringing to Dior as the first female artistic director. I love the lace and intricate details on the dresses, the tailored coats and biker jackets. I also love the simplicity of the “We Should All Be Feminist” tees, the knee-high riding boots and the undergarments with Christian Dior written on them.
As for me, I’m still learning so much about designers, their signature styles and fashion houses. Follow me this year as I share my favorite looks of the season and learn a little more about the pieces that catch my eye on the runway.
