Isabela Moner is not your typical Nickelodeon kid, she’s not only talented and charming but also has a long resume behind her – this isn’t her first rodeo, if you catch my drift.

Raised in Cleveland, Ohio from Peruvian descent, at the age of 10 Moner made her debut on Broadway in the revival of Evita and on television as a singer in The Next Big Thing New York. She gained the lead role in the acclaimed film The House that Jack Built, appeared in numerous theatrical productions such as Little Miss Sunshine as Rosa Maria, became Annie in Annie and Young Cosette in Les Misérables. Fans also got a chance to see her in NBC’s Growing Up Fisher and soon in Nick’s upcoming movie, Splitting.

Now, at the age of 13, Moner joins the ranks of Paola Andino as a lead Latina actress in a Nickelodeon show and is ready to have her big break starring in the brand new series 100 Things To Do Before High School as CJ Martin.

*Article originally published on Variety Latino on 6.2.15

After a successful performance in the indie film Filly Brown,  Gina Rodriguez was determined to take Hollywood by storm. Her starring role in the CW’s Golden Globe nominated series Jane The Virgin, did just that. Her innocent yet feisty character captured America’s heart. It goes without saying, she’s now a household name.

She’s currently working on a film with Mark Wahlberg and getting ready for the second season of Jane The Virgin. I had the opportunity to chat with Gina about her new movie Deepwater Horizon, her role models and her obsession with boxing.

How did winning a Golden Globe change your life?

It’s pretty freaking awesome and super. There are no words. There’s that feeling of gratitude, love, [feeling] blessed and being freaking stoked about everything. Now, I’m doing a movie in New Orleans. It’s outrageous! I’m boxing everyday. It’s so fulfilling. This is what I had dreamt of 15 years ago when I was a teenager. It’s wild.

Tell us about your character in Deepwater Horizon

In Deepwater Horizon,  I play a Latina from San Diego. I feel very honored to play her. The story centers on a devastating explosion in the Gulf of Mexico. Working with Peter Berg has been outstanding, he is somebody I’ve always desired to work with. He is a genius, hands down. He teaches you to let go and just jump into your role while he provides the parachute. And I am having a blast working with so many male actors, Kurt Russell, Mark Wahlberg, John Malkovich and Dylan O’Brian.

10 Latinos To Watch: Behind The Scenes [Photos]

I had the privilege of co-producing the Variety Latino’s first annual “10 Latinos To Watch” list where we honored the best up and coming Latino actors and actresses in Hollywood. Among the list were Diego Boneta, Karla Souza, Stephanie Sigman and Luis Gerardo Méndez.

It was an amazing experience! We did everything from choosing the ten, contacting them, setting up their interviews, writing all their profiles, galleries and more. My co-worker, Griselda Flores, and I worked diligently to produce content that would really stand out and honor each of their achievements. Each one came in to our studios to talk about their careers, their start in the industry and what they had learned about being in the industry. You can look at all the coverage by clicking HERE and their videos HERE.

While they had their interviews I took behind-the-scenes pictures and now you can take a look at them!

“The Originals” Recap: “Red Door”

originals

It’s “The Originals” recap time!

Forgot what happened last week in “”Live and Let Die”? No worries, recap episode 4 HERE.

We start the episode with a bloody Elijah chasing…Elena?

He wakes up from being chained and Esther is right there with him telling him that she is not in his head, that he was dreaming. She asks who he was dreaming about and chasing? Elijah is very feisty and Esther tells him that she wants him to become a witch and take the body of a new being. He tells her to let him go and he gets vicious. She reminds him that he gets into his savage stage and rips up every little “butterfly” love that he has because he is a beast and she brings up him first love. We go back in time and we see a young Elijah and a doppleganger Elena who only had eyes for one person, Elijah. So now we see this doppleganger talking to Elijah and see that she is attracted to him and she says, “I choose you Elijah” and they share their first kiss.

Red Door

Well, well, well…Now back to present time and Esther tells him that he always rips his butterflies apart and he says it happened when Esther drained his first love of her blood.

The Vampire Diaries

Welcome, welcome VD Lovers!

If you haven’t caught up from last week or don’t remember all that happened, recap last episode, “Black Hole Sun,” HERE.

From what we can shortly recap is that Ivy is now a vampire and Stefan wakes up because his phone is ringing and gets a call from the coach who says that he still has Enzo in his possession and is torturing him. Once he hangs up he hears Ivy in the kitchen and sees her with blood in her mouth and she starts to tell him that she killed his boss. She is a sassy little one and says that she can’t control her emotions and even references “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” 😉 She gets all rallied up and goes after Stefan but he snaps her neck.

We then arrive at Caroline’s dorm with Stefan and Ivy in a trunk. He is asking her to take care of Ivy in the meantime and of course Caroline gives in. Next we see Alarec is teaching and we find out that it is Homecoming, does this mean another party? But he goes on and tells a tale of Homecoming and that the morale of the story is to never fall in love with your brother’s girl and looks at Elena who is in his class and asks if he wants to have her compulsion removed and she says no. After class Elena asks Liam to the Corn Maze and it’s a date!

The Originals recap: “Live and Let Die”

originals

Today we’re recapping the 4th episode of “The Originals!”

To catch up on all the excitement, recap last week’s episode, HERE!

From last week we know that Esther is not in Lenore’s body and ready to destroy Klaus and Elijah.

We start off this week’s episode at Marcel’s place and his clan of vampires when all of a sudden they get intruders and a warning from the werewolves (under the control of witches) to leave town or else they will not hold back.

Welcome to the “City of Death,” as Camil names it.

We see her with Finn but I’m pretty sure that she has NO idea who he really is. From what we gather he’s her therapist and he is trying to get her to tell him everything she knows, especially about the guys that she has had in her life. So she starts talking about Klaus without actually mentioning him and Finn asks what happened and she says, “Not everyone wants to be saved.”

We see the real tension between Elijah and Hayley and it is definitely not the same between them. Camil is seen on the phone with Davina and D tells her that she is ok and hangs up with her. Cami then bumps into Klaus who has already figured out where Davina is just from overhearing the call with Camil.

Next we see Esther with Kol, they are trying to locate Davina and are unsuccessful. Finn comes in and Esther tells them that they need to find Davina and the white oak stake. We go back to Davina with Mikael who tells her that they should not hide and that her weakness will be her fear.

Marcel and his clan are worried about having to leave and getting killed by the werewolves. Then we see Elijah zoom in and snap a couple of the vamps necks as he says, “Lesson 1, always be on your guard.”

Live and Let Die

Finn, Oliver and a werewolf are in the cemetery and it seems like Finn has a plan to attack the vampires that involves a bunch of kids, killing and activating their curse. Back with Davina and Mikael, he is teaching her be strong, just what Davina wanted. He throws a stick at her and says, “Lesson 1, always be on your guard” just like Elijah had just said. They start to do some “training” but she twists her ankle and he tells her to get up. She is clearly hurt but again he tells her to get up and she does.

Camil and Klaus are at a bar, against Klaus’ wishes he wants to hurry over to Davins’s but Camil wanted to get a drink and not be rushed to the “killing” that she expects to happen between him and Mikael. We switch to Davina and see that her ankle is swollen and she is in pain. She calls Kol, even though she doesn’t know who he truly is, and tells him that she will send him the address where she is at and a list of things that she can maybe bring her…oh no!

“The Vampire Diaries” recap: “Black Hole Sun”

“Vampire Diaries” fans unite to recap the 4th episode, “Black Hole Sun.”

Forgot what happened before? Recap the last episode HERE.

We start off with Damon with Kai, the guy that they found in the “twilight zone,” when Bonnie comes in and they start to bicker about how they have to figure out how to get out of there and why 1994 is a significant year.

We go back to 1994 to supposedly the time when Damon did “worst thing ever.” We see Damon go to the Salvatore home to see Stefan but he can’t enter his home. That’s because a human owns the home and then he lets him in.

Now we go back to present time with Stefan on a call with Elena about trying to find Sarah, the girl that they compelled but now remembers that Elena is a vampire. Stefan is trying to leave town but Elena won’t let him. She is probably in Mystic Falls where the vampires can’t go and then says that it’s Matt and Jeremy’s responsibility to find her. So Alarec is with Jer who is super hungover at the doctors.

BlackHoleSunSneak2-feature-2

Now we go over to Matt and the couch who knows everything about the vampires but they start talking about this guy Jay who has gone missing. Back to “twilight zone” with D & B and Kai who wants to know Damon’s story.

The Vampire Diaries recap: “Welcome To Paradise”

The Vampire Diaries

Welcome to episode 3 of the new season of “The Vampire Diaries.”

Need to recap on episode prior to this, click HERE.

Now we start off with Stefan having anger issues, asking his boss for time off and telling him he’s leaving town while showing him his dead girlfriend, Ivy, in the back of his trunk. So honest, but then again he’s being compelled.

Elena is now Damon-free and with no thoughts of what happened between them, Jeremy is still struggling dealing with Bonnie’s death and it seems like there is a big party going down tonight and everyone is inviting everyone.

Stefan appears back at Elena’s school, she is happy to see him so they go and catch up. He tells her she seems different and happier and they talk about Ivy and the “dinner part from hell.”

We flash over to the other world where Bonnie and Damon are at the grocery store and then while they are there they hear the merry go round outside turn on, thus Bonnie say that it is a sign of hope. As they talk about hope and getting back to the real world all of a sudden they see cars, one of them being Damon’s. Things are starting to get strange  because all of a sudden someone swooshes by. That “someone” ends up being a tarp but then the merry go round starts playing again.

EveryMothersSonSneak2-feature

We go back in time to see little Elijah and Flynn and their mom asking where Klaus is. She goes to the woods and finds him all alone and his mom tells him to not be afraid, that she will be with him, always and forever. We go back to present time and Klaus is not happy to see his mother knowing that they will have to prepare for the worst. Elijah heads over to Marcel’s and tells him that the new vamp is not his burden, he turned the new vamp, Marcel should train her. All Elijah wants is to find a witch with which Marcel asks his new vamp to take Elijah to meet Lenore, the witch that can possibly help him.

Oliver meets up with another witch to get his ring back and “Cassie,” the witch, tells him that the ring comes with a price. Oliver informs Hayley about the new witch that is helping Esther, who then tells Klaus about it and he tells proceeds to tell Hayles the story of how his little brother died and how his mother went crazy.

Marcel-Elijah-and-Lenore-4

Back with Elijah, Marcel’s new vamp  proceeds to take Elijah to Lenore who tells the witch that he wants to find out how he can find out which body a certain witch will jump into next. But as he gets his deal and leaves, the witch that Oliver was with arrives to see Lenore, and oh no…we probably know what happens.

The Originals Recap: “Alive and Kicking”

originals

We’re back for episode 2 of “The Originals!”

If you missed the season premiere read the recap here.

We start off this week’s episode, “Alive and Kicking,” with a flashback of Klaus and Elijah back in the old days with a house full of dead people and their brother Kol who ends up being put to sleep with the stake by Klaus.

We go back to current day and see Elijah at the house with a bloody corpse in the front yard. Looks like Hayley has been a crazed new hybrid. She seems to have an appetite for witches and growing more savage as the days go by, thanks to Klaus who edges her on. Thus Elijah goes to Klaus to stop making her a wild animal but he tells her that she is embracing her new self.

Elijah is feeling nostalgic about the way that Hayley is acting thinking about the days in the past when Klaus was a terror, nothing new though. Elijah goes to Marcel to make a deal with him to find the white stake, but why does he want it? He tells Marcel to make Davina look for it and then we see her with Klaus’ dad. But it looks like someone who is working with the witch mom is stalking Davina. — I don’t like this witch as she is making new moonlight rings for the wolves and is for sure going to try and destroy the vampires.

AliveKicking22a

Hayley and Klaus are in the woods trying to find some part of her pack, they are both clearly distressed over their daughter. He makes her concentrate to find some clue as to where her family could be.
