2015: The Hardest Year of My Life

Who would’ve thought that 2015 would have been the year that everything changed. As we welcome the New Year, I’d like to look back at my blessings and the tragedies.

This year I lost my mom. She was taken from my me and my family after an unexpected accident. Some things are hard to take and sometimes you don’t understand why they happen. This came out of nowhere and literally broke us all. She was too young, too full of life and too loved to be gone. I think about her every single day since that horrible day in May. And yet with that tragedy, my life has changed forever. I’ve begun to start looking at life differently. Some things have more meaning now. Some things matter more and others just don’t seem worth it anymore.

Livin La Vida: Liz Takes Cuba [PHOTOS]

Cuba = Amazing! What an experience!

I had the opportunity to go to Cuba from December 4 to the 8 and it was overall an extraordinary trip that I took with Garrett.

We decided to go there after I told him that I wanted to take a relaxing vacation after many months of hard work. I had also seen a couple people I knew post incredible photos from there.

We booked our trip and flew out of Tijuana, with a stop in Mexico City, before we left to Havana. In TJ we had to get a tourist visa, which was about $30, and when we got to Mexico City we had to get another one for like $15. In Cuba they didn’t stamp our passports just the visa and on our way back home our boarding pass. We took cash and exchanged all we had once we got to the Havana airport (since you can’t use ATMs anywhere or take out money.)

Day 1:

We arrived by taxi to a beautiful plaza where a nice gentleman led us to our hotel. We walked through cobblestone streets and saw how alive the city was. We saw people dancing on the streets with a live band inside a restaurant called Café Paris. Once we checked into Hotel Marques de Prado, also known as Hotel Florida, we walked out and grabbed dinner in the plaza near where we got dropped off.

Ideas For Decorating A Small Space [PHOTOS]

One place that we all tend to spend most of our time is our bedroom. We dress ourselves up and keep all of our must haves in this special place, so why shouldn’t we get to style our sleeping quarters as well?

After moving into a miniscule room I decided to gather some fashion forward ideas to help me maximize space and dress it up. Believe me this space is tiny, but I have to work with what I have and have some ideas stocked up. Now let’s see how you can take some of my tips and give your bedroom a mini makeover.

Monday: Look Of The Day

Haven’t written in a while…

I’ve been taking a break due to the passing of my mom but I try and keep my Instagram @LaVidaLiz going with Looks Of The Day and other fashion related outfits that I like.

Today, as many of the past days have been, was a grey cold day. I opted for my go-to black leather pants with a white top. I spiced up the look with my white, Forever 21 mules and silver statement necklace. (My fav as of recently).

To cover up I decided on a beige basic trench coat, also from F21, and black sunglasses with silver lenses from this small chain store named GStage. Turning a simple black and white outfit into something “TrendyAsEff” can be simple. It’s all about the statement add-ons such as accessories and coats that can change your whole look in an instant!

Success

“As long as success is defined by who works the longest hours, who goes the longest without a vacation, who sleeps the least, who responds to an email at midnight or five in the morning — in essence, who is suffering from the biggest time famine — we’re never going to be able to enjoy the benefits of time affluence.” – Arianna Huffington

La Vida Liz on Instagram!

So I finally took the first step and created an Instagram account for my site @LaVidaLiz.

It’s more artsy, fashion forward pictures than my personal one, with quotes that I find amusing. Still trying to figure out if I should just do it on my personal account, @LizCalvario, but we’ll see how this new one goes.

Trendsetting Tuesday: Valentino Paris Fashion Week SS15

Welcome to Trendsetting Tuesday where this week we will take it back to Paris Fashion Week SS15 and see the outstanding couture collections of one of my favorite designers, Valentino.

For a while now I have been a Valentino enthusiast, enthralled and enamored by the delicate details and textures. I admire the colors, the fabrics, the looks and the quality of Italian exquisiteness.

Let’s take a look at a handful of dresses that caught my eyes.

Without a doubt all white looks have captured my attention this season! I die for anything white, flowy and especially intricate and delicate like these looks.

Keep reading for more awesome looks.

Trendsetting Tuesday: Dolce & Gabbana Milan Fashion Week SS15

This is looong overdue but I have some time to refresh your memory of the gloriousness that is Dolce & Gabbana!

I fell in LOVE ❤ a couple weeks ago when D&G had their Summer 2015 Women’s Fashion Show in Milan. The outfit’s, the clothes, the makeup, the hair was to die for and I couldn’t help myself I had to save every picture that was posted on their Instagram.

The lace, the detailing is what makes D&G what it is.

What’s With The Alone Time?

Weekend Catch Ups

I’ve recently have been M.I.A. from La Vida Liz and I need to put a pep in my step!

This weekend, well to be correct, this Sunday, I took some time for myself to catch up on my behemoth stack of fashion magazines that have been collecting dust in my cave for many month. (Side note: I’ve just caught up to June magazines, Wahoo!)

While I know I will be getting in the July editions soon I plan on reading one or two – fingers crossed – magazine a week so that I can be all caught up with the world of fashion.

Anyway this post isn’t about my “struggles” with reading my mags, it’s about having that extra time for yourself. That time to let your thoughts wander and wonder what the hell you’re doing with your life, what your next steps will be and if you are ok, happy and in a place you want to be.

Now nothings is crazy in my life (aside from the occasional family drama), I have a job that is a great challenge and is in the field that I love, I have the best friends in the world and I miss my bests back in Ramona OH.SO.MUCH, and I have the greatest boyfriend I could imagine. But…there really is now but, buuut, sometimes you wish that you could be in two places at once so that you could be living the dream you want and are trying to achieve and be back home with your friends and family so you don’t miss out on all the hangout sessions. But I may be homesick, I may be overthinking, I may just need to start doing more things I love?

So while I wonder while I wander, I will hope that I can write and keep updating my site as much as I can, workout, and keep reading my magazines to get inspiration and not have a stack in the cave.

Over & out mis amigos!
