Livin’ La Vida: Nigel Barker Sneak Peek

It’s been a minute since I’ve had the chance to sit down – after work, after vacation, after life- to fully immerse myself once again in La Vida Liz. There have been so much great stuff going on in the fashion world. I’ve pretty much died and have gone to heaven every time I saw a designer’s Resort Collections and have been wanting to write something up everyday.

Though, I do have an exclusive from Nigel Barker, world renowned fashion photographer, who I got the opportunity to speak with during Macy’s Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. I learned so much from this extraordinary man and can’t wait to share his thoughts on models who have impacted and changed the world and featured in his new book Models Of Influence, Kimye on the cover of Vogue, tips for entrepreneurs and so much more!

Here’s a sneak peek!

Continuing reading for a great video-demo of Nigel teaching everyone how to take the perfect selfie.

La Vida Liz on Instagram!

So I finally took the first step and created an Instagram account for my site @LaVidaLiz.

It’s more artsy, fashion forward pictures than my personal one, with quotes that I find amusing. Still trying to figure out if I should just do it on my personal account, @LizCalvario, but we’ll see how this new one goes.

#TBT: “Jaded” by Aerosmith

Jaaaade, ja ja jaaaaded!

I’m dedicating another Throwback Thursday to Aerosmith’s “Jaded.”

Why not, right?

Since this song came out in 2001 I 143, la la la loved it! Then while I was driving back home from work added a couple songs to my “Rockin’ Tunes” playlist on Spotify and decided that this should be a part of it. So I came home, watched the music video and now am writing about it.

Did you know Mila Kunis is in the video? Maybe you did.

Anyway Steven Tyler is oh-so-cool. Watch the video and let me know if you love it as much as I do.

Trendsetting Tuesday: Elie Saab Paris SS15 Show

This week for Trendsetting Tuesday we take it back for Paris Fashion Week to the Elie Saab runway show.

*Note: We’ll be taking it back for a while since I am obsessed with a variety of shows that happened over the last couple of months.

This year my eyes were opened to the out of this world, intergalactic designs of ES. The colors, the shapes, the way the long crystalized dresses and colors flowed down the runway was magnificent.

Thus to show you what this designer is all about I have chosen a few of my favs! Let me know what you think!

These 3 have a similar look, they are a flowy and show some leg. The two on the side  have similar patterns with deep V’s but one shows leg and comes with sleeves while the middle one is a gorgeous light powder blue.

Music Monday: Iggy Azalea feat. Rita Ora “Black Widow”

Welcome to a start of a new week!

While things have been up and down on this site, I suffered from tendonitis and mild carpel tunnel but am feeling much better.

Anywayyy…Let’s get things up and running this fine Monday, August 18th with some jams!

My selection for Music Monday will have to be the new video by Iggy Azalea featuring Rita Ora, “Black Widow.”

While I have battled with my like and dislike with the rapper, I have to say that I do enjoy this song.

What can I say, the heart likes what the heart likes.

This “Kill Bill” inspired vid is pretty slamin’ with the duo seeking revenge upon an ex-“thirty” lover. Kicking ass and taking names we see the singers dip into some martial arts and even get a guest appearance by T.I.

Let me know what you think of the song and video.

Happy Monday

xoxo L.C. ❤

#ThrowbackThursday: Xtina Has Some Advice For Biebs

It’s been a while lovely La Vida peeps, but I am back for a special #TBT of articles from back in the day.

Today I take a look at when I covered “The Voice” season 4 screening for Celebuzz and when I had the opportunity to ask Ms. Christina Aguilera a question or two.

From what I remember from a year ago, it was almost wrap up time and Xtina was on the move. She was so nice and pleasant and had some words of wisdom for the troubled Justin Bieber.

Here is the article, you can see it live on Celebuzz here.

Christina Aguilera may not be coaching this season on NBC’s The Voice, but that doesn’t stop her from coming out to Wednesday’s Season 4 Premiere Screening.

“I’m just excited to be here, supporting my Voice family and seeing what it’s like behind the button and having no button pressure,” she told reporters. “It’s interesting.”

While fans were excited to see new coach Ushertalk of his protégé and megastar, Justin Biebersoon arose. Biebs is having a rocky time right now and Aguilera — who also grew up in the spotlight — did not hesitate to offer up her thoughts.

“Everybody handles it their own certain way,” the 32-year-old pop star said. “I would just say don’t let… anyone push you around or have you be something you’re not.”

“I’ve always been really honest and true to my own roots and really grounded, not letting myself stray too much,” she continued. “You live life and it’s hard from a young age to grow up in front of the camera and, like now, I take moments for myself.”

Mother to son Max, she knows when to focus on superstardom and yourself, “You learn to take moments to yourself and step away from the camera, so you can re-inspire yourself as an artist, rejuvenate and refresh. “

Will you miss Xtina’s insight as a coach this season? How do you think Usher and Shakira will do?

What’s With The Alone Time?

Weekend Catch Ups

I’ve recently have been M.I.A. from La Vida Liz and I need to put a pep in my step!

This weekend, well to be correct, this Sunday, I took some time for myself to catch up on my behemoth stack of fashion magazines that have been collecting dust in my cave for many month. (Side note: I’ve just caught up to June magazines, Wahoo!)

While I know I will be getting in the July editions soon I plan on reading one or two – fingers crossed – magazine a week so that I can be all caught up with the world of fashion.

Anyway this post isn’t about my “struggles” with reading my mags, it’s about having that extra time for yourself. That time to let your thoughts wander and wonder what the hell you’re doing with your life, what your next steps will be and if you are ok, happy and in a place you want to be.

Now nothings is crazy in my life (aside from the occasional family drama), I have a job that is a great challenge and is in the field that I love, I have the best friends in the world and I miss my bests back in Ramona OH.SO.MUCH, and I have the greatest boyfriend I could imagine. But…there really is now but, buuut, sometimes you wish that you could be in two places at once so that you could be living the dream you want and are trying to achieve and be back home with your friends and family so you don’t miss out on all the hangout sessions. But I may be homesick, I may be overthinking, I may just need to start doing more things I love?

So while I wonder while I wander, I will hope that I can write and keep updating my site as much as I can, workout, and keep reading my magazines to get inspiration and not have a stack in the cave.

Over & out mis amigos!

Livin’ La Vida Liz: In London

So I headed to London on April 3-4, 2014, the first stop on my 10 day European grand tour.

Our time was short there but it was amazing. We (Brittney and I) landed in Manchester and took the train over to London where we met up with my friend Hilary and our exploration began.

We saw the London Tower castle and saw the ruins of a London that once was. We walked around a bit more and as the night was getting darker we saw the bridge light up. This was my time to head over to the Backstreet Boys concert at the O2 Arena. Yes, it’s true I saw them there all by myself and it was AMAZING.

Riding the metro alone was invigorating, I was a bit scared but the feeling of being free and independent in a foreign city was thrilling; plus the metro connected right to the arena and everyone rode it after the show so I wasn’t alone.

Of course I had to take the phone booth pic, it’s a classic. The next day we had a mid-day plane ride to Dublin so we went sightseeing in the morning and saw Big (#Booty) Ben and Buckingham Palace. Helloooo Prince Harry 😉

That was about it, as we had to catch a train to the airport and depart to our next destination.

What a grand day!
